Wanderers ended a three-game winless run with their 3-0 Papa John’s Trophy win over Leeds United U21s on Tuesday night.
Ian Evatt’s men have lost their last two games – their only defeat in 10 games in all competitions – before last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Barnsley.
Accrington also qualified for the knockout stages of the trophy thanks to a midweek victory over young Liverpool.
Stanley had previously won three league titles in a row – winning just one of their first eight league games of the season.

The win, the Whites’ first in four league games with the first goal in this dry spell, moved them up to sixth and with the last few games to come, it could be a turning point in the campaign.
With Connor Bradley suspended, Lloyd Asgro made a stunning comeback in the midweek Papa John’s Trophy win over Leeds United, almost 11 months after making his first league start.
Kyle Dempsey and Lee were also back to start the league game as the Wanderers looked to answer their day’s problems and secure a place in the play-offs.
But Stanley also had a point to prove after the 3-0 league defeat and the Reds were rewarded for a good start with the opener after just eight minutes.

Former Wanderers striker Joe Pritchard had already forced James Trafford into action when he squared the ball clear for midfielder Shaun Walley to score his first goal since returning to the club in the summer.
The goal put Wanderers on the back foot and Harvey Rodgers worked for long periods at Stanley Trafford.
But with Dempsey driving the Wanderers forward from midfield and Charles looking to make a mark against his former club, the visitors slowly regained some control as they searched for an equaliser.
But the closest they came to leveling the scores on the break came just before half-time when Asgrove found Dempsey for a shot that Toby Seven came close to saving, Mitch Clarke reacting smartly to clear the score. Because Charles was waiting to shoot.

The tide looked set to swing the Wanderers’ way, but within minutes of the restart, they agreed to make their task more difficult.
The Reds were once again quick out of the blocks and after Traward’s save from Whalley, a long throw from Doug Thiem caused chaos in the Whites’ penalty area and was rolled into his own net by defender George Johnston.
It could have been worse when Ethan Hamilton was denied a third from Ricardo Almeida Santos’ goal.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson headed Isgrove’s cross over the bar before both converted three pointers.

And one of those introduced from the bench was involved in the goal that saw Wanderers back into the competition.
Jack Iredell – on the left after switching to a back four – delivered a free which allowed Johnston to convert with a header in front of goal which eventually beat Rodgers to make it a goal.
The wanderers suddenly regained their confidence as they moved forward and a threat appeared every time they moved forward.
Afolayan – breathing new life into the advancing half – and Lee were both denied by Savin, who produced a brilliant save to keep out another Johnston header.

But even an inspired Stanley keeper couldn’t stop the Whites from leveling 2-2 on 20 minutes.
Afolaine intervened again and when his shot deflected in the air, Elias Kachunga kept the ball alive and timed Lee perfectly to score his second goal of the season.
The Wanderers fans were jubilant behind the goal, and were celebrating again when the fightback ended two minutes later.
Charles had just tried to get into the back of the net with an opener when Afoline, on the verge of being played, once again broke through the Reds’ defense to head home at the end of the line. Excellent campaign for his third goal

But with Wanderers negotiating seven minutes of added time, he had done enough to secure a thrilling victory on a brilliant afternoon.
