The film stars Ryan Phillippe (“MacGruber,” “Big Sky”), Kate Bosworth (“A Long Road Home,” “Force of Nature”) and Ving Rhames (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Pulp Fiction”). and is directed by Nicholas Harvard (“Hell or High Water,” “Yellowstone”).

Filming began on November 15, according to Film Las Cruces, and is expected to continue until mid-December.

Filming will take place in numerous locations throughout Doña Ana County, but has recently been concentrated near Apodaca Park, at the corner of Solano Drive and Madrid Avenue. Solano Scooters, a locally owned scooter dealership in that area, was converted into a lock for the film.

A member of the film crew said the roads were to be completely closed to traffic, but that the plan was changed to account for access to nearby businesses still operating. When the cameras stop, traffic is allowed.

It is not clear at this time what other locations the production will use to shoot the film. However, Film Las Cruces said the film will be made entirely in Doña Ana County and “will have an estimated $2 million directly in the local economy.”

The state said in a news release that the production will employ about 65 crew members and 200 background talent from New Mexico.

In the world of thrillers and crime thrillers, the narrative frame “one last job” has been used enough to be less clever than its own genre – films of all genres can play in the fun house, as long as they find a way to keep. it is fresh or delicious. Nicolas Harvard’s directorial debut, “The Locksmith,” however, mostly takes characters and narrative twists and throws them in their basket, unable to imbue the rest with much color or nuance.

The film’s only hope for a defining quality is uncomfortably forced: its protagonist Miller (Ryan Phillippe) lock-picking skills serve as an avatar of a past that he cannot escape. After a robbery goes wrong and results in a corrupt cop killing his friend, Miller is convicted of murder and sent to prison for a decade. He sets out to make things right with his ex-girlfriend, Beth (Kate Bosworth) – who happens to be working on the farm alongside the corrupt cop – and their young daughter. But soon an old friend—naturally the ex-lover of Miller’s dead partner—draws him into another conspiracy that only entangles him in a larger web of crime.

Most of the film is told in a broad script, ridiculous and loaded with clichés. Its cast, including Ving Rhames — portrayed as a cruel mentor, but an easy comfort nonetheless — and nostalgic early-stage stars in Phillippe and Bosworth, can’t do much with what they’re given. Bosworth is perhaps the only one who finds room for some subtlety in what amounts to a stilted, muddled work.
