LAS CRUSES. The humble scooter shop was recently the main setting for The Locksmith, the latest in a series of films filmed in the Las Cruces area in November.

According to the New Mexico Film Studios, “The Locksmith” follows an experienced locksmith who recently returned home after being released from prison. Trying to start a new life with his family, he is forced to use his skills as a plumber.

Feature films starred Ryan Phillippe (McGruber, Big Sky), Kate Bosworth (Long Way Home, Force of Nature) and Ving Rhames (Mrs. Impossible – Consequences, Pulp Fiction). . . . and directed by Nicholas Harvard (Hell or High Water, Yellowstone).
According to Film Las Cruces, filming began on November 15 and will run until mid-December.
Filming is taking place in many locations throughout the Dona Ana area, but recently the focus has been on the nearby Apodaca Park, on the corner of Solano Drive and Madrid Avenue. Solano Scooters, the area’s local scooter dealer, was converted inside and out into a locksmith shop for filming.
A crew member said the streets were supposed to be completely closed to traffic, but that plan has been changed to allow access to nearby businesses that are still in operation. When the cameras stop, movement is allowed.

It is not yet known what other locations will be used for filming the film. However, Film Las Cruces reported that the film would be filmed entirely in Dona Ana and would “add about $2 million to the local economy”.
The production will employ about 65 crew members and 200 New Mexico talent, the state said in a statement.
Locksmith joins Knight with Bruce Willis, Hot Spot with Mel Gibson and Chupa on Netflix this month in the Las Cruces area.
