The Oklahoman Movie

The Oklahoman Movie – Today was a loooooong day, and when I sat down to watch a movie tonight, only Joel McCrea’s soothing voice would do. THE OKLAHOMAN (1957) proved to be a very satisfying Western entertainment.

THE OKLAHOMAN is an Associates film that has more sound than McCrea’s classic STARS IN MY CROWN (1950). Where in STARS IN MY CROWN McCrea played a small town pastor raising his orphaned grandson, in THE OKLAHOMAN he is a widowed doctor raising his little daughter, Louise (Mimi Gibson of HOUSEBOAT).

Like the minister of STARS IN MY TAJI, Dr. John Brighton of McCrea is an inspiration for goodness in his community. As the minister prevented a black man from being forced to sell his land in STARS IN MY CROWN, “Dr. John” comes to help Charlie (Michael Pate), an Indian, when Cass Dobie (Brad Dexter) tries to force him. this. Charlie to sell — it seems Charlie has an oil fortune on his land.

While there are some thematic parallels with McCrea’s previous film, depicting the blessings and struggles of small-town rural life, THE OKLAHOMAN stands alone as a well-made film. It’s a character-driven relationship film with great acting, starting with McCrea’s honest and thoughtful doctor who doesn’t shy away from battle.

Esther Dale gives a delightful performance as Mrs. Fitzgerald, an elderly widow who gives a home to a doctor and his baby; he provides office space for the doctor and the mother for the child, and in return he gets a family. Peppery Dale was a winning presence in films for over a quarter of a century, with notable roles including Edward Arnold’s secretary in EASY LIVING (1937) and the grandmother who raised MARGIE (1946).

Barbara Hale, with long black hair and a mature, self-assured personality, is attractive as a widow as she watches the doctor. Gloria Talbott plays Maria, Charlie’s beautiful daughter, who helps Mrs. Fitzgerald take care of Louise but her presence in the doctor’s house causes “conversations” after Mrs. Fitzgerald passed.

The cast is full of familiar faces, including Verna Felton, Ray Teal, Anthony Caruso, and I. Stanford Jolley. Look for Diane Brewster (Samantha Crawford on MAVERICK) as the girlfriend who helps deliver McCrea’s baby at the beginning of the film.

Oklahoma City: A Survivor’s Story (tv Movie 1998)

One of the flaws of the film is the punch sequence where McCrea’s character faces the camera and it is clearly not Joel McCrea! It’s a little confusing when this happens in the movie. MONTANA (1950) with Errol Flynn is another film that appeared in the last months where this was an issue.

The film has a beautiful outdoor look, filmed on Southern California movie backlots and ranches. It was shot in widescreen by Carl E. Guthrie.

THE OKLAHOMAN was directed by Francis D. Lyon. Like many other Westerns of the 1950s, including McCrea’s excellent WICHITA (1955), the film was written by Daniel B. Ullman. It works 80 minutes.

On a final note, the foreign posters for this film, with McCrea carrying Talbott, are unintentionally hilarious as there is no such scene in the finished film! no longer supports older versions of your web browser to ensure user data remains secure. Please update to the latest version.

The item was a little smaller than I expected, but that was my fault for not looking more closely at the details. It was beautifully packaged and in perfect condition. I was very happy with the purchase. My late mother in law is one of the women on the cover and it was a gift for one of her daughters. Inside was another picture that none of the family had ever seen which made it even more perfect. Thanks for putting this article together. It will be stored forever.
