When I decided to watch Vadh, I assumed from the looks of the characters that it was a story about an old couple trying to make ends meet. But believe me, the movie has nothing to do with it. It exceeds your imagination and expectations.

Starring Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta, Vadh is directed by Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Rajiv Barnwal. It is the story of a couple – a school teacher Manjunath and his wife Manju – who send their son to America only to be told that he doesn’t care about them. Therefore, they have no choice but to try to earn a living at home. However, there is a twist. They soon become part of a mysterious murder. as? You have to watch it to know.
What makes Vadh wonder is its fascinating action. The film holds the viewer and does not let them blink an eye for a single second. He is calm, but in this calmness lie his greatest twists. The plot of the film does not allow you to predict what will happen next. The moment you try to imagine, “Oh! it may happen further’, it just proves you wrong. So give the writers a pat on the back!
But the overall plot of the film will definitely remind you of Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Drishyam, but the Malayalam remake only got better with the sequel. Like Drishyam, the police in Wadh know about the person who committed the murder but have no evidence against him. Not only this, the Vadha murderer also takes all possible measures to cover up the crime to protect his family – another similarity with Drishyam. Third, the Sanjay Mishra-starrer killer also has a moral justification for his crime, just like Drishyam. Hence, Vadh may appear as a by-product of Drishyam.
Sanjay Mishra is a star in Vadh. Thanks to this film, he proved that he can carry the script single-handedly on his shoulders, and that too flawlessly. He easily plays his role and makes you believe in his character. The film is a must watch for Sanjay Mishra fans. Neena Gupta should have had more screen time. She only acts as a supporting character and is portrayed as someone with a weak heart and a lack of courage. Perhaps the authors should have done the opposite – to portray Manju as brave and fearless, and her husband – indecisive. Does this sound like an interesting plot?

The film is brutal and bloody. A person is not only killed with a screwdriver, but also chopped into pieces and then burned. This may be somewhat disturbing to a certain part of the audience.
Finally, the title of the film “Vadh” is not entirely justified. The word “Wadh” is associated with something noble, purer. The scene where Sanjay’s character vindicates ‘Vad’ does not look satisfactory. For example, ‘Nayay’ (justice) looks much more perfect for the film than ‘Vadh’.

He is constantly harassed by a moneylender named Prajapati Pandey, played by Saurabh Sachdeva, whom he deeply hates.

Shambhunath’s world is turned upside down when he commits a crime under unusual circumstances. The rest of the scenes revolve around his attempts to cover his tracks and stay out of jail.
The film is not about whether Shambhunath is captured or not, or even about his delivery. After an uncomplicated part, before the intermission, unexpected twists and turns take place that tear the film out of the ordinary.
As a result of Vadh’s movie review, the sequences between the protagonist and his son also don’t work as well as they could. They had to be more subtle to be effective.
The same goes for the scenes with Shambhunath and Prajapati. They had the potential to be deeply haunting and annoying, but they didn’t because silence doesn’t really speak.

Vadh has nuances that will require the audience to pay close attention while watching. The audience can pay attention to the props and dialogues in the scenes.
You can also see parallels between the sequences and Prajapati’s murder, like the rat escape scene in the film.
The first half of the film is slow and Prajapati Pandey chasing the old couple could have been shorter but the second half of the film is gripping to the core.

Vadh is a bit like Drishyam. Both films are essentially about the struggle of underdogs and try to blur the line between right and wrong. However, Vaad falls short of the standards set by the Ajay Devgn-led thriller as the screenplay is not up to par.
Sanjay Mishra’s film opens with a series of scenes that give us a glimpse into Shambhunath’s life. While these sequences are well-intentioned, they don’t do an exceptional job of establishing the film’s world.
As a result, the person cannot really relate to their situation. The sequence between the main character and his son doesn’t work as well as it could. They had to be more subtle to be effective. The same goes for the scenes with Shambhunath and Prajapati. They had the potential to be deeply haunting and annoying, but they didn’t because silence doesn’t really speak. The scenes set in the police station are quite exciting but lack the intensity of Drishyam. There is an attempt to make them laughable, something that backfires and ultimately weakens their impact.
That said, Vadh is not a lost cause of the imagination. The previous break has great “shock value” and manages to prepare the groundwork for the second half. Likewise, there is a twist at the end that tests the dynamics of the film.

Sanjay Mishra easily immerses himself in a multi-layered and complex character. He uses his eyes to hide Shambhunath’s true intentions in the second half. He also shows his vulnerable side in a heartbreaking scene where he is beaten by thugs.
Neena Gupta complements Sanjay Mishra quite well. She looks her best in the scene where she shouts “paap hogaya”. Still, you end up feeling like she deserves a bigger role.
There is no room for music.
